Editing & Photo Shop
Journal Entry: Thu Jun 5, 2008, 11:48 PM
So, the other day I was talking to someone about photography, and digital photography in particular.
And we got on to the wonderful topic of editing and photo shopping photos.
Now, personally, I don't generally edit any of my photos.
I can, and I sometimes do.
'cause hey, sometimes it looks cool.
But I don't try and pass them off as anything but edited photos.
My photos come as they are, and if I fail to take a decent photo straight off, I hardly think I should try and edit it to make it good.
To me, that's just not photography.
But, as we discussed, photography isn't really about taking good photos anymore.
Sure, there are still some people that think that to have a good photo, you actually need to take a good photo.
But for the most part, it's all about how well you can edit it.
If you're looking for a job as a photographer, you almost always have to be good at using PhotoShop.
And while I can use it, semi-decently, I don't like doing so.
Because what's the point in having a camera if you're just going to change everything about the photo?
I don't know, this is basically just a rant.
I don't like PhotoShop.
I admit that there's a place for it, and a pretty damn big one at that.
I also admit that it produces incredible pictures.
I just don't like it.
And I don't like the fact that PhotoShop is considered, by quite a lot of people, to be an essential part of photography.
It wasn't thirty years ago, I don't see why it should be now.
But clearly my views on the topic are out-dated and idiotic.
It's like modernizing Shakespeare.
Yes, I ate Baz Luhrmann.
